This year’s theme is “Industry and Translational Research.” Our panelists will share their career journeys, insights, and experiences across academia, industry, healthcare operations, policy, and translational research.

This is a great opportunity to learn about diverse career paths, ask questions, and engage in an interactive discussion.

Panelists

Dr. Shivani Kamdar (PhD 2021)

Associate Director of Pharmacoeconomics, PIVINA Consulting Inc.

Shivani holds an Honours Bachelor of Sciences and a Doctor of Philosophy in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Before joining PIVINA, Shivani worked on a variety of translational research projects, developing multiple prognostic models to predict cancer patient outcome after surgery as part of her PhD. In her current role as Associate Director of Pharmacoeconomics at PIVINA Consulting Inc., Shivani leverages her experience with project management and her scientific background to support health technology assessment submissions across Canada.

Kimberly Crasta, (MHSc in Translational Research (TRP) 2023)

Clinical Project Manager, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Kimberly earned her Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology through the Translational Research Program, where she studied how clinic workflow management impacts efficiency and patient wait times. She also completed a collaborative specialization in Public Health Policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, focusing on promoting equitable access to care. Over the past decade, she has built a diverse portfolio in research, healthcare training, and operations across medicine, academia, industry, and government.

Her award-winning master’s research has influenced methods for assessing and improving outpatient clinic operations and has been showcased at conferences across Canada and the United States. Kimberly’s experience includes teaching, course development, and mentorship. Since 2023, she has co-created and led a series of courses for the African Impact Challenge based on an adapted translational research framework. In June 2023, she was the first recipient of the LMP Mentoring Program’s student–mentor award. She has also served as an instructor, mentor, and program coordinator for the MSc in Health Entrepreneurship at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Ghana, contributing to initiatives across Africa from 2023 to 2025.

Kimberly currently works as the Complex Malignant Hematology Clinical Project Manager at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, managing the expansion of the Malignant Hematology Transplant Program. Since 2023, she has also been a co principal investigator at the University of Toronto and a researcher with the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.

In her free time, she enjoys travelling the world - 44 countries and counting - and exploring Canada’s natural landscapes with her family.

Dr. Amanda Mohabeer (PhD 2021)

Manager, Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Program, University of Toronto

Dr. Amanda Mohabeer manages the Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Program at the University of Toronto, where she develops training and professional development opportunities for postdocs. She has extensive experience in teaching and trainee development and received the 2021 Avrum Gotlieb Award for Curriculum Development and Teaching Excellence. Dr. Mohabeer holds a PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology from the University of Toronto. Recently, she founded ‘Beyond the BSc’ a higher education consulting platform designed to help students navigate their academic and career paths.

Filomena Grosso (MSc 2018)

Supervisor, Manufacturing, BlueRock Therapeutics

Filomena completed both her Honours Bachelor's of Science and Master's degree at the University of Toronto. Her Master's in Infectious Disease, specifically developing antivirals for adenovirus infection was done as a member of the LMP community, supervised by Dr. Martha Brown, in collaboration with Dr. Alan Cochrane, Department of Molecular Genetics. Currently, she is employed at BlueRock Therapeutics as a Supervisor in the Manufacturing department, where she and her team are directly responsible for supplying clinical trial material that will be delivered to patients, in addition to maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices in all elements of her work. Her aspirations drive her to bring her learnings, knowledge and technical know-how to bring ideas from benchside to bedside.
