Dr. Claudia Gentile has joined the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine as an Assistant Professor.
Dr. Gentile brings internationally recognized expertise in chromatin biology, epigenetics and cancer biology, further strengthening LMP's research excellence in molecular pathobiology and precision medicine. Her research focuses on identifying epigenetic mechanisms of cancer development and drug resistance.
She completed her PhD in Experimental Medicine at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Marie Kmita at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM), where she investigated the role of Polycomb Repressive Complexes in chromatin conformation and Hox gene regulation during limb development. She then joined the laboratory of Dr. Cigall Kadoch at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
During her postdoctoral training, Dr. Gentile established an independent research program exploring the relationship between chromatin biology and cell signalling pathways in kinase-mutant cancers, informing development of new combination treatment strategies. Her research has been published in leading journals including Cancer Cell, Nature Communications and Developmental Cell.
At LMP, Dr. Gentile's laboratory will investigate how oncogenic signaling pathways modulate the structure, function and activity of diverse chromatin regulators to provide insight into chromatin-level mechanisms governing therapeutic response and resistance. By integrating high-throughput ‘omics’, biochemistry and cancer biology, her research aims to elucidate novel and targetable epigenetic dependencies in cancer.
Dr. Gentile is looking forward to building collaborations across Temerty Medicine and with clinician-scientists working in oncology, pathology and translational research. Through these efforts, her laboratory will bridge fundamental discoveries in chromatin biology with clinically relevant questions, to inspire the development of more effective precision therapies for patients.
