Message from the Chair
Welcome to Canada's largest academic Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology
We are a network of learners and faculty that are located at one of five fully-affiliated hospitals, seven research institutes, the University campus, Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, Canadian Blood Services, Public Health Ontario, and 11 community-affiliated hospitals and healthcare facilities.
We have over 100 cross-appointed faculty, and in terms of primary faculty we have:
- over 200 clinical faculty
- over 125 scientists and tenured faculty
- over 20 adjunct faculty, and
- 13 staff.
Our faculty is focused on doing research that includes basic science, investigating disease pathogenesis, developing novel diagnostics, genetics, artificial intelligence, and developing continuous quality improvement programs with the goal of impacting health.
Our diversity is further reflected by our clinical expertise in pathology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, forensics, and transfusion medicine, which provides readily accessible opportunities for collaboration.
We encourage cross-appointments from other departments to enhance these collaborations.
Teaching the next generation of scientists, clinicians, and leaders is a priority for LMP faculty.
LMP offers an Undergraduate Arts and Science Specialist Program in Pathobiology, which includes a capstone research course, teaches medical students, and a comprehensive Graduate Program for over 250 MSc and PhD students. We also offer professional masters programs training the next generation leading Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Translational Research, as well as developing careers as Clinical Embryologists and Pathologists' Assistants.
We oversee five residency programs (Anatomical Pathology, Neuropathology, Hematological Pathology, Medical Microbiology and Forensic Pathology). We have a large clinical fellowship program and offer Focused Competency Programs in Cytopathology and Transfusion Medicine.
LMP also has Postgraduate degree programs in Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Microbiology.
Our undergraduates can participate in a summer research program either at the campus, hospitals or research institutes.
LMP faculty also delivers Continuing Professional Development courses locally and at national and international meetings.
LMP is committed to equity, diversity and professionalism. If you have chosen LMP as your home, you have made a wise choice.
In this website you will find helpful information on faculty and staff, students’ organizations, degree and residency programs, fellowships, courses, Departmental criteria for continuing appointment and promotion, and current events. Please browse through it as it is constantly being updated.
I encourage you to explore our Strategic Plan 2023-2028: enabling people to be their best.
