What you will experience
Join us for an exciting two-day program at the University of Toronto, where you'll:
- Explore the sub-specialties of Laboratory Medicine, zooming in on anatomical/diagnostic pathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, forensic pathology, and medical microbiology
- Connect with renowned faculty experts and residents, gaining invaluable insights and expanding your network
By participating in the LMP summit, you'll be immersed in:
- The astonishing ways Laboratory Medicine influences up to 80% of clinical management decisions through engaging case-based discussions
- The advancements in automation, digitization, and machine learning revolutionizing diagnostics
- Additional opportunities for further exposure to Laboratory Medicine beyond the MD curriculum

- explore areas in breakout sessions covering areas such as digital pathology, microbiology and Artificial Intelligence, and molecular pathology
Who it is for
This program is aimed at medical students who are enrolled in an undergraduate MD program in Ontario (across Canada also welcome) and are interested in exploring the field of Laboratory Medicine.
2026 Agenda
The Summit will take place on the St. George Campus at the University of Toronto.
You must be available to attend BOTH days.
Saturday, May 23
- 8:15 am - Registration and breakfast
- 8:30 am - Welcome remarks
- 9:15 am - Case-based sessions: exploring cases in areas of pathology and microbiology
- 1:00 - 2:15 pm - lunch and ice breakers
- 2:15 pm - Opening the Black Box of the lab - exploring specialties - short sessions and Q&A
- 3:30 pm - Training and working in lab medicine - panel and Q&A with our program directors and current residents
- 5:00 pm - Dinner (local restaurant)
Sunday, May 24
- 9:00 am - Registration and breakfast
- 9:30 am - Breakout sessions in fields such as forensic pathology, digitization, molecular pathology and microbiology and AI
- 11:30 am - Lunch, networking and closing remarks
How to apply
The best part? There's no cost to attend this program! Breakfast. lunch and dinner are included on day one. Breakfast and lunch are included on day two. Spaces are limited.

Dr. Carlo Hojilla
Pathologist at Mount Sinai Hospital and Assistant Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto.
Dr. Larissa Liontos
Staff Hematopathologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, Hematological Pathology Residency Training Program Director and Lecturer in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto.
Dr. Susan Poutanen
Medical Microbiologist and Infectious Diseases Physician at Mount Sinai Hospital and University Health Network and Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto.
