Connaught International Scholarships for Doctoral-Stream Students

The Connaught Scholarship is a prestigious entrance award intended to attract excellent doctoral students to University of Toronto.

This award is for international applicants who have not registered in a graduate program at University of Toronto. International (visa) applicants who complete their graduate program application by February 1st will be considered for this scholarship.

The total value of the scholarship is $35,000 per year, with contributions from the Supervisor, Department and Connaught Fund.

You must be nominated for this award by the LMP Department.

SGS Conference Grant

The SGS Conference Grant assists registered, full-time doctoral-stream (MSc or PhD) students in good standing to present their research at a conference or other academic meeting.

This initiative supports The School of Graduate Studies' (SGS) efforts to further the professional skills development of doctoral-stream students and increase students’ competitiveness for scholarships.

Preference will be given to students early in their career who are presenting their research for the first time.

The grant will cover all or much of the student registration fee and a fixed amount based on conference location.

This grant is not intended to replace other sources of funding (e.g. student, supervisor or department/Faculty contributions) but will enable students with limited funding to attend a conference that might otherwise not be possible without additional support.

You can apply in October and March.

To apply, you need to submit an online application form and provide supporting documents. Your supervisor is required to participate in the application process.

If successful, you will be asked to provide proof of registration at the conference in order to have the grant funds deposited to your account, and confirmation of attendance and active involvement (e.g. hotel receipt and a conference programme that lists your name) in order to retain the grant.

Visit the SGS website for full information.

Faculty of Medicine OSOTF and Restricted Awards

OSOTF and Restricted Awards provide financial support for registered graduate students (primarily MSc and PhD) in the Temerty  Faculty of Medicine. These funds contribute towards the annual student stipend.

Most of the funds for OSOTF and Restricted Awards come from interest income earned from endowments donated by various donors. The Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF) awards were established in 1996/97 by the Provincial Government. The donor provides one third of the funding, matched by one third from the Province and one third from the University.

OSOTF awards are restricted to residents of Ontario who demonstrate financial need according to the provincial government's guidelines (i.e., receiving OSAP or providing the data on the OSOTF Financial Need Assessment Form). For the purposes of the OSOTF awards, an "Ontario resident" is either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada at the time the award is made.

Visit the Graduate and Life Sciences Education (GLSE) website for full information.

Applicants must be primarily supervised by a Member of the Centre. Each application is considered a joint submission by the applicant and the proposed supervisor.
