Marjan Rouzbahman
MD, FRCPC
Dr Marjan Rouzbahman is a consultant pathologist at Toronto General Hospital and Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
She is a graduate of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and did a clinical and anatomical pathology residency in Tehran University of Medical Sciences before immigrating to Canada.
She completed anatomical pathology residency and further gynecologic pathology training and research at University of Toronto.
Since 2008, she has been practicing in diagnostic gynecologic pathology as well as teaching and supervising undergraduate students, medical students, pathology residents and fellows.
Her current research interest is in molecular biology and cytogenetics of gynecologic malignancies particularly HPV negative cervical cancers and uterine mesenchymal neoplasms.
She is interested in the implementation of molecular testing for diagnostic and targeted therapeutic purposes as part of personalized medicine.
She has authored several peer-reviewed articles in gynecologic pathology and textbook chapters including a chapter for the 2020 WHO blue book of gynecologic tumors.
Research Synopsis
As a pathologist, with main interest and practice in gynecologic oncology field, my major line of interest has been studying unusual and rare malignant neoplasms of the female genital tract.
My focus has been developing diagnostic criteria as well as identifying biomarkers to help with diagnosis or management of rare tumors.
My main areas of interest as well as current projects are on three main areas.
- Uterine mesenchymal tumors: uterine leiomyosarcoma, endometrial stromal sarcomas and PEComa.
- HPV negative endocervical cancers
- Biomarkers in gynecologic pathology
