Dr. Hsieh graduated from medical school at McGill University in 1993, and completed his residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Toronto in 1998. After completing a fellowship in gastrointestinal and molecular pathology at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Toronto, he began his career as a staff pathologist at Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Sciences Centre in 1999.

Dr. Hsieh led the gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary pathology service from 2003 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2019. An expert GI & HPB pathologist, Dr. Hsieh established Sunnybrook as a regional referral centre for diagnostic consultations and as a leading centre for gastrointestinal biomarker testing in the province - as one of the first centres to implement immunohistochemical and molecular screening for Lynch syndrome in colorectal cancers, and one of two Cancer Care Ontario reference centres for gastric HER2/neu testing.

Research Synopsis

My main focus is on novel biomarkers and potential immune targets in gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary cancer.
