PhD
BSc in Biology from the University of Iceland 1987. PhD in Medical Science from the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm 2003. Title of thesis: Preservation of fertility through cryopreservation and in vitro maturation of human ovarian follicles and oocytes. MSc in Business Management from Uppsala University in 2015. ESHRE certified Senior Clinical Embryologist in 2008.
Worked as a clinical embryologist since 1991 and have held Laboratory Director positions at Uppsala University Hospital and the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm since 2002 as well as other management and R/D positions.
Active in professional societies such as ESHRE, the Nordic Fertility Society (NFS) and the Swedish Society for Reproductive Medicine (SSRM). Held board member positions in NFS and SSRM (cashier) and chaired the SSRM between 2017-2019.
Research Synopsis
My research has mainly focused on culture conditions for human embryos and on cryopreservation techniques. We have studied the effect of various growth factors and culture media supplements on human embryo development in vitro to identify viability markers for human embryos. Several of the studies utilized time lapse technology to assess embryo development.
I was involved in the first live birth after ovarian tissue cryopreservation in Sweden and have worked with human ovarian follicle culture and studied cryopreservarion techniques. Analysis of follicle development and competence continues to be a part of my research interests.
