Ramzi Fattouh
PhD, FCCM
Dr. Fattouh graduated with his Doctorate in Medical Sciences from McMaster University and completed three years of additional training as a postdoctoral fellow in Cell Biology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Subsequently, he pursued postdoctoral training in the Clinical Microbiology Diploma program at The University of Toronto and in 2016 obtained certification as a Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists (FCCM).
At present, he is a Clinical Microbiologist and lead of the clinical molecular microbiology testing program at Unity Health Toronto.
Dr. Fattouh has also served as a member of the clinical microbiology whole genome sequencing quality working group led by Public Health Ontario Laboratories, is an examiner for the Canadian College of Microbiologists, and is presently a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (CACMID) and the National Molecular Microbiology Diagnostics User Group (NMG).
Research Synopsis
Research interests include:
- molecular microbial epidemiology in the context of outbreak investigation
- development of novel sequencing-based clinical assays including use of long-read sequencing technologies
- antimicrobial resistance detection and stewardship
