Help us find a new name for LMP

A collage of photos of people

Competition deadline has now passed.

Our department was founded 25 years ago, from a merger of three departments: Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Microbiology. The name of LMP was chosen to reflect the combination of basic and clinical sciences and Laboratory Medicine.

But the name is long and the acronym, LMP, is not unique in our field in Toronto.

If you could change the name of our department, what would you call it?

Guidelines and rules

  • Only members of the LMP community can enter this competition – current and past students, trainees, faculty and staff.
  • The name needs to reflect who we are and what we do: Take a look at “About us” and our Strategic Plan. Does it align with our Mission, Vision and Values (see below)?
  • The name needs to be shorter than our current name: Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. See what other departments in Temerty Medicine are called.
  • U of T loves acronyms, if made into an acronym, it needs to work and not be the same as something else in the University of Toronto.
  • It needs to be understandable and legally suitable.

How a winning name will be chosen

  • The LMP Vice Chairs Council will review entries and produce a shortlist.
  • You can vote for your favourite name during lunch at the LMPRC 2024, April 25, 2024.
  • The Vice Chair Council will choose a winner from the top three entries.

Please note: The name change may not happen, or the chosen name may only be inspired by the winning entry.

The prize

You could win a Kobo Elipsa 2E (e-reader/notebook)!
