Funding Paths and Deal Structures (Workshop 4 - From Discovery to Impact)
From Discovery to Impact is a new faculty development series introducing LMP faculty to research commercialization and the pathways that can help move discoveries toward real-world application.
Designed for LMP faculty at the earliest stages of exploring commercialization, the series provides practical guidance on topics including regulatory readiness, entrepreneurship supports, intellectual property, industry collaboration and funding. No previous entrepreneurship or business development experience is required.
The series includes four online workshops from October 2026 to February 2027, followed by an in-person pitch competition in April 2027.
Participants will learn from experienced innovators and commercialization experts, explore resources available across the University of Toronto and its affiliated hospitals, and develop their ideas for potential translation and commercialization.
Teams interested in participating in the pitch competition must be led by an LMP faculty member, and at least one team member must attend each workshop to remain eligible.
Who should attend these workshops
- Faculty members with an appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the university of Toronto
- Students, trainees, postdocs and research staff are welcome to attend but can only be part of the pitch competition if they are in a team with an LMP faculty member
