Tala Lumbu from the Translational Research Program celebrates receiving her MHSc
By Jenni Bozec

This week graduate students from the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP) attended convocation from the following programs:

We were delighted to celebrate with the students. The MHSc programs held a celebration where department Chair, Dr. Rita Kandel, noted how she believes graduation is one of life's biggest accomplishments, demonstrating hard work, determination, and success in accomplishing individual goals. She told the students: "You are young but your profession is even younger. I am encouraging you to be a force for change to make your field even better than when you entered it". We are sure they will!

The Graduate Office staff and Communications team were outside Convocation Hall cheering everyone on to the delight of many students who posed for photos.

Congratulations to all our graduates - we are very proud of you all!

If you've just graduated from LMP, make sure you connect with us on LinkedIn and update your contact details with the alumni office so we can stay in touch!

Graduated from: MHSc in Laboratory Medicine, Pathologists' Assistant Field

"My favourite part of the program was the networking and clinical rotations. I got to experience so many different labs so I could see what kind of environment I wanted to work in and I got to connect with so many specialists.

I would say to anyone doing a program like this to just enjoy your time. Use the opportunity to learn as much as you can, ask many questions. Just be curious."

Graduated with a PhD

"Starting something new will always come with uncertainty, fear, and imposter syndrome, that’s normal. You don’t have to know everything at once. Begin with small, steady steps and let yourself learn as you go. When you hit roadblocks, don’t isolate yourself. Reach out. Community is not just support, it’s how we grow. The people around you can help you find direction, resources, and perspective, just as you will one day do for others.

So my advice if you're starting a PhD is: don’t run from the discomfort. Sit with it, work through it, and trust that solutions will emerge. You are not meant to do this alone."
