Speaker: Dr. Caterina Giannini

Dr. Caterina Giannini is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and a Professor of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic and Professor of Pathology at the University of Bologna, Italy, with a clinical and research focus in brain tumor pathology.  She has participated in over 300 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to editions 3rd through 5th of the WHO classification of tumors of the Nervous System (IARC, Lyon France).

She has been the director of the Pathology and Tissue Procurement Core of the Mayo SPORE in Brain Cancer and of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Neuro-Oncology biobank.  She has been a co-investigator and central reviewer neuropathologist for multiple clinical trial protocols since 2000.  She is highly active in the Neuro-Oncology program of the ALLIANCE cooperative group, for which she is the Cadre leader for Neuro-Oncology for the Pathology Committee and the Neuropathology liaison of the Neuro-Oncology Committee.

She holds multiple memberships in pathology and oncology societies, and for the past 11 years, she has been the moderator of the Diagnostic Slide Session, one of the most popular sessions of the Annual AANP Society meeting.  She is a member of the editorial board of Acta Neuropathologica and the case editor of the Under Your Microscope section of Brain Pathology, the official journal of the ISN.
