Speaker: Ambra Pozzi, PhD

Ambra PozziDr. Ambra Pozzi, received a Master Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Milan (1990) and a PhD in experimental pathology from the University of Florence, Italy (1996).

After receiving a postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, Dr. Pozzi joined the Division of Nephrology at Vanderbilt University (2000).

Currently, Dr. Pozzi is a Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Nephrology) at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She is a Senior Research Career Scientist at the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Treasurer of the American Society of Matrix Biology.

She is the Associate Director of:

  • the Vanderbilt Center of Matrix Biology
  • the Vanderbilt O’Brien Kidney Center; and
  • Vanderbilt Center for Kidney Disease, and

Dr. Pozzi oversees an active research laboratory looking at cell-matrix interactions and understanding how matrix receptors control matrix homeostasis in health and disease.

She studies two major matrix receptors, integrins and discoidin domain receptors and how they can be targeted in fibrotic disease.

She has published more than 130 publications including peer reviewed articles, invited reviews, and book chapters.

Her studies are currently supported by the NIH (RO1, P30,), the Veteran Affairs (Merit Review, Senior Research Career Scientist award), and by American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Pozzi has served on numerous NIH, DOD, AHA and VA study sections and has participated in the organization of national and International meetings including the American Society of Matrix Biology and the American Society of Nephrology meetings. She is currently on the editorial board of Matrix Biology, Matrix Biology +, eLife, and Kidney International.
