Students in the Specialist Program in Pathobiology in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology were delighted to celebrate their upcoming graduation in person last week.
At the first in-person event to be held at the Faculty Club since the pandemic began, students gathered with faculty and staff members to mark the official end of their program before they sit their final exams.
Department Chair, Dr. Rita Kandel remarked when opening the event, “Many of you are going on to do spectacular things. You should be proud of what you have accomplished over these past four years – this is a very rigorous program. Your accomplishments are even more significant because of the last two years where you studied and learned in a COVID-19 regulated environment.”
“These past couple of years have been quite challenging for all of us”, continued Program Co-Coordinator, Dr. Karim Mekhail. “You’ve had to exert enormous effort, not just to perform academically, but to continue to adapt to this pandemic. I am incredibly proud of you all, as through the toughest of times, you have continued to learn and to take the opportunity to grow.”
Program Co-Coordinator, Dr. Jeff Lee, was pleased to celebrate the success of this particular group of students, as he commented at the event, “This class means a lot to Dr. Mekhail and me as this is the first class where we did the admissions and selected all of you to be here. We’re very happy that you’ve all made it through and done extremely well.”
Co-President of the LMP Student Union (LMPSU), Nathaniel Vo joked in his speech about how it felt good to “not to have to unmute” this particular microphone, as he and fellow Co-President Justin Callahan spoke on behalf of the Class of 2022. They acknowledged and thanked all the teaching faculty for being able to “foster both passion and curiosity, not only within their respective fields, but also in the broader perspective of our future careers,” despite the challenges of the pandemic. They also noted the contributions of the LMPSU and thanked the staff for their support. “We responded to these unprecedented times with unprecedented resilience.”
We wish all our graduates great success – congratulations to the Class of 2022!
