Speaker: Karim Mekhail

Karim Mekhail is an internationally renowned leader in spatial genome dynamics - the study of how the positioning and movement of DNA inside living cells impact gene stability and expression.

His contributions include redefining long-held models of human gene expression, the discovery of the first molecular DNA ambulance that transports damaged DNA to its repair centers, using mechanical and aerospace sciences to decipher complex genetics, and uncovering mechanisms impacting cancers and neurodegenerative disorders.

He is a Full Professor in the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and a member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists & Scientists.
